In these two verses, for some reason the parts about being still and fortress are what kept sticking with me these pass two weeks. I use a website called Blue Letter Bible, which comes in very handy for almost any situation. I think I use it at least once a week for looking something up or finding other verses that refer to similar phrases or words. I wanted to know what other words it had for fortress and it listed: high place, refuge, secure height, retreat. These weren't surprising or cause any major realization, but for me it's always helpful to look at words differently because in most cases it makes me look at what the verse is saying in a totally different way than I did originally. I then looked up the phrase 'be silent'. These ended up being very profound for me and make me look at the verse and understand it in a completely different way. Other phrases for it are, to know, learn to know, to perceive, to know by experience, to acknowledge, to confess.
I think we overlook verses like this and take it at face value, when sometimes we should look deeper. These verses are calling me to come before God in prayer and confession, declare that I know He is my Savior. But also know that He is God; know that He is in control over everything, and has everything in His hands. I took this picture because I thought of the story when Jesus commanded the winds to stop and calmed to waters. I always think of my life this way, that sometimes winds (troubles) come and shake things up, make us question what we are doing or what's going on. I need to remember that God is in control and sometimes I need to seek him in the calm and not just in the storm.
